About Miles

Miles Muzio is a veteran meteorologist, broadcast meteorologist, instructor, and weather consultant with more than 50 years of experience in weather forecasting, broadcasting, education, and consulting. He currently teaches aviation weather at CAU while continuing to provide daily television weather broadcasts and website forecasts.

Miles began his weather career in 1972, when he launched weather balloons as part of the Lunar Lander Training Vehicle Weather Support Team for Apollo 17 in Houston. He graduated with honors from the U.S. Air Force School of Meteorology in 1976 and went on to serve 12 years as a U.S. Air Force forecaster. He has worked as a broadcast meteorologist since 1981, with professional forecasting experience ranging from Arctic conditions in Alaska to tropical forecasting in Panama.

Throughout his career, Miles has received numerous awards for achievement as a broadcaster in multiple television markets across the country. His professional work also includes forensic weather consulting through Weather Intel, where he consults for law firms and insurance companies as an expert.

Professional Leadership & Contributions

Miles has been an active member of the National Weather Association (NWA) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS). As NWA Broadcast Meteorology Chair from 2014–2017, he composed and oversaw the establishment of the NWA Digital Seal program while also modernizing the television Seal of Approval process.

He received the AMS TV Seal in 1983 and was designated a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the AMS, with the certification upgraded in 2005. He received the NWA TV Seal of Approval in 1992 and founded the Kern Chapter of the NWA in 2006.

Research, Innovation & Public Service

Miles is currently working with the Omega Project team at the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The team's goal is to develop new life-saving forecasting techniques to better predict tornado events. His interests include storm chasing and developing new forecasting methods.

In 2005, Miles established the Katrina Hope Foundation, an effort focused on helping Hurricane Katrina victims re-assimilate into communities nationwide.

​

Author & Educator

Miles published his first book, Foundations: The Meaning of Life, in 2008. In addition to his professional meteorology and forecasting work, he enjoys teaching adult Sunday School.

Personal

Miles has been married to his wife, Deborah, for 51 years. They have two sons, Aaron and Micah.
